A fine Marcolini Meissen porcelain group, ‘The Broken Eggs’, c. 1775. Modelled by Michel Victor Acier, as two ladies accompanied by putti, with an upturned basket of broken eggs at their feet. Set upon a circular base, moulded with a continuous freeze of arches and rosettes, after a design by Johann Carl Schonheit.
The details finely moulded, with careful attention to the enamelled decoration.
Underglaze blue crossed swords mark and star to the underside.
Height – 25 cm, 9 7/8”.
Width – 16 cm, 6 1/4”.
Depth – 12.5 cm, 4 7/6”.
Condition – Some minor chips to the leaves, firing cracks to the base. Otherwise in fine condition.
Whilst this figure is relatively easy to find in its later 19th Century incarnation, it is very rare to find an example created in the lifetime of Acier.
It is clear to see the difference in the modelling of the two periods. This example is particularly well modelled, as is evident in the realistic rendering of the ladies faces, and veins on their hands, as opposed to the romanticised style of the 19th Century examples, to appeal to a Victorian audience.
