Staffordshire Pottery King George IV Mug, Dated 19th July 1829


A very rare and fine Staffordshire porcellaneous mug, King George IV, dated 19th July 1829. The lavender glazed mug, applied with a biscuit medallion, cast with a profile portrait of King George IV, dressed as a Roman Emporer, beneath the inscription ‘GEORGIUS IV DEI GRATIA BRITANNIARIUM REX’. Having a scroll molded handle.
Possibly manufactured by the Samuel Alcock factory.
The base applied with a glazed tablet, inscribed ‘JULY XIX, MDCCCXXX’, within a laurel wreath.
Measures: Height - 8.5 cm, 3 3/8”.
Width - 12.5 cm, 5”.
Condition: Excellent original condition. No damage. No restoration.

Literature: Probably made for a dinner held in honour of King George IV, in 1829.

Signed/Inscribed: The base applied with a glazed tablet, inscribed ‘JULY XIX, MDCCCXXX’, within a laurel wreath.

Measures: Height 8.50 cm, 3.35"
Width 12 cm, 4.72"

Condition: Excellent original condition. No damage. No restoration.
