Staffordshire pottery toby jug 'Thin Man', c. 1780.


A good Staffordshire pottery creamware ' Thin Man' toby jug, c. 1780. Possibly produced by Ralph Wood. The toby modelled as a seated young man, holding a frothing mocha coloured mug in his left hand, and smoking a pipe, held in his right hand. Seated in a Chinese Chippendale chair, set upon a square base, with a moulded Classical motif to the front.
The creamware toby decorated in coloured glazes, and the details finely moulded, notably his neckerchief, waistcoat, hair & teeth.

Medium: Earthenware.

Condition: Some restoration to his hat, mug, bowl of pipe & the handle.
