A Sevres porcelain plaque, dated 1844. The oval plaque, hand painted with a study of Marie Antoinette, after a painting by Elisabeth-Louise Vigée-Le Brun. Mounted in a gilt metal frame.
Printed and painted factory marks, including the date 1844 to the reverse. Impressed number ‘210’.
Height - 22 cm, 8 3/4”.
Width - 15.5 cm, 6 1/8”.
Condition - Perfect. No damage. No restoration.

Literature: Élisabeth-Louise Vigée-Le Brun was an 18th Century French painter. She painted portraits of many of the nobility of the day and was invited to the Palace of Versailles to paint Marie Antoinette. The queen was so pleased with her work that during a period of six years, Vigée-Le Brun would paint more than thirty portraits of the queen and her family. As a consequence, she become thought of as the official portraitist of Marie Antoinette.
