Royal Crown Derby. A rare and important unrecorded 'Imari' pattern Temple Jar.


A rare and unrecorded large Royal Crown Derby Temple Jar and cover, dated 1883. Painted in the Japanese Imari style with panels of Bijin in gardens, surrounded by further panels painted with stylised flowers, upon a cobalt blue ground. The neck decorated with various motif, above a lappet collar. A continuous band of red whorl adorns the footrim.
This important vase was probably made for an International Exhibition.
Having a similarly decorated cover, surmounted by a large gilt finial, upon a moulded chrysanthemum collar.
Both the jar and the cover having the Royal Crown Derby mark, dated 1883, and inscribed 'Derby Imari Ware. From Original in the South Kensington Museum' 327-77.
Height - 70 cm, 27 1/2".
Condition - Original firing fault to the base. Perfect condition. No restoration.

Medium: Porcelain.
