Rare ' Wellington as Prime Minister' pottery plate

A rare North East England pottery plate depicting the Duke of 'Wellington as Prime Minister', c. 1830. Transfer printed in black, with the Duke stood before St Paul's Cathedral, holding the Sword of State. Titled 'Wellington as Prime Minister'.
The border moulded with floral scroll, suspended from ribbons, stylised flowerheads.

Literature: The print is after Thomas Lawrence's portrait of 1814, commissioned by the Prince Regent. Depicting Wellington in full uniform decorated with his many medals, holding the Sword of State aloft. Behind him can be seen St Paul's Cathedral, which along with the Sword of State and his military uniform represents the state-church-army triumvirate which were the foundations of Britain's glory.

Medium: Earthenware

Condition: Chip to rim at 12 o'clock. Some typical minor wear to the glaze. Otherwise in perfect condition. No restoration.
