Japanese ivory okimono, signed Gyokushi 玉之, c. 1900, Meiji Period.Well carved as a fire- watch man, patrolling the town, on a Winters night.
He stands, wearing a head scarf, and blowing into his hands, whilst carrying a lantern over his shoulder, and wood clappers, over his right wrist.
Set upon an oval base.
Signed Gyokushi 玉之 to the underside of the base.
Height - 17 cm, 6 7/8”
Condition - Perfect. No damage. No repairs.
