Japanese Ivory Okimono of a fisherman. Meiji Period.

A good Japanese Ivory okimono, c. 1900. Meiji Period. Well carved as a fisherman walking bare footed, by the sea, carrying a basket in his right hand, a further basket full of fish tied to his waist. In his left hand, he carries a finely carved turtle.
Signed to a red lacquer seal applied to the base.
