Japanese ivory Dutchman netsuke. 18th Century. Edo Period.


A good Japanese ivory netsuke, 18th Century, Edo Period. Well carved as a Dutchman, standing and facing ahead, holding a dog in both hands. He wears a long outer coat, the reverse of which is unusual carved with a Shishi dog head; and breeches.
He also wears a wide brimmed hat, with a feather atop.
The ivory shows a fine patina.
Height - 8.5 cm, 3 3/8”.
Condition - minor age cracks. No damage. No repair.
