Elkington & Co. silver plated gas bar lighter. c. 1890.


An Elkington & Co. silver plated gas bar cigar lighter, c. 1890. Cast as a cherub holding aloft a torch in his left hand, and a flowing ribbon in his right. Set upon a spreading circular foot rim, cast with decorative motifs, which would have been attached to the bar.
A copper pipe would have risen from under the bar, through a hole drilled into the base, ran up the side of the figure, emerging through the aperture in the torch, to provide the flame.
Stamped Elkington & Co. marks, and model number ‘11606’ to the base.
Height -14.2 cm, 5 5/8”.
Condition - Typical minor wear to the silver plate. Otherwise in perfect condition. No repairs.
