An exceptionally large carved ivory okimono of a banana. Meiji Period.


An exceptionally large Japanese ivory okimono, Meiji Period (1868- 1912). Beautifully carved as a partially peeled banana; the flesh of the banana being particularly realistic. The skin being naturistically stained.
It is very unusual to find such a large study of a banana, from the Meiji Period.
Length - 26.5cm, 10 2/8”.
Height - 3.5 cm, 1 3/8”.
Width - 4 cm, 1 5/8”.
Condition - Excellent. No damage. No repair.
