A QAJAR CARVED WALRUS-IVORY HILTED DAGGER (JAMBIYA)


A good Qajar walrus ivory hilted dagger (Jambiya), c. 1800. The finely curved steel blade with fine gold damascened decoration of floral scroll. Having a walrus ivory hilt, carved with panels of Qajar princes, with attendants, between stylised Islamic script; floral scroll carved to the top of the hilt.
Length - 41.5 cm, 16 3/8". Length of hilt - 12.3 cm, 4 7/8".

Medium: Walrus ivory & steel.

Condition: Typical age cracks to the hilt, and minor wear to the gilding. Please see images for details.
