A good Chinese soapstone carving, c. 1800. Well carved as a Luohan wearing long flowing robes, with incised hems. He holds a fly whisk in his right hand, and beads in his left. A small qilin leaps before him.
Traces of original colour to the hems of his robes.
Length- 13 cm, 5 1/4”.
Height – 9.5 cm, 3 3/4”.
Condition – Natural fissures to the stone. Typical wear to the pigment. Otherwise restoration.
