A ‘Vienna’ style porcelain plaque, c. 1900. Hand painted to the centre with a depiction of Act V, scene III of Shakespeare’s play ‘Coriolanus’. The Roman general with his mother Volumnia, his wife Virgilia, and his son Martius, before a drape, opening to reveal a Classical landscape.
All within an elaborately gilded border of raised scrollwork, and silouhettes of Classical ruins.
Underglaze blue Beehive mark, and title ‘Coriolanus’ to the reverse.
Diameter -.29 cm, 11 1/2″.
Condition – Spot of wear to the gilt rim – please see images for detail. Otherwise perfect. No restoration.
