An elegant and large Japanese Imperial Satsuma earthenware figure of a Priest, Meiji Period, c. 1880. Finely modelled, the Priest has a serene expression upon his face, and his hands clasped together. He wears robes, enamelled with Phoenix, within floral scroll roundels, edged with continuous flower head and scrolls, in gilt, on a red ground. Further robes falls to his feet, decorated with stylised cloud scroll, upon waves.
