A Japanese Arita porcelain ewer, c. 1700. Painted in underglaze blue, with birds and insects flying amongst flowering plants. The spout connected to the body, with a moulded ‘S’ scroll, and the pierced handle, painted with floral scroll.
The thinning glaze to the rim and foot revealing a burnt orange body. Pooling of a greedy blue glaze, around the bases of the handkerchief and spout.
Single ‘spur’ to base.
